The stiletto steps back

Although I could never really find myself wearing them, I have always respected the stiletto and more importantly the stiletto wearer. I love the look. I love the sound it makes when it walks into a room, but like many who even go near the shoe of shoes they unfortunately become very painful after being worn for too long.

I had other reasons as well for not wearing them (the main one being that I’m not the best at keeping my balance in flats let a long a tall heel), but comfort was the main issue. After all, when your going out and decide to dress up a little more than usual the thing you usually want is to feel your best and enjoy the event for as long as you can. As pretty as a stiletto looks, it’s a shame that they sometimes have to cut your night short after a few hours.

The good news however, is that fashion has decided to step up in terms of heel choices. I remember walking into an Australian brand shoe shop and feeling so pleasantly surprised to find all these different heel heights and designs. There were high heels, block heels, low heels, shoes with a thick or thin strap, lace up ballet flats and more styles to count. I’m pretty new to the world of heeled shoes and these styles have probably been around for a while but it feels like we’re seeing so many more fashion campaigns with a variety of footwear and its really cool.

Most of us want to be able to know we can dress up and feel like we’re doing a good job and for me that means having some sort of heel on. It makes me walk a little taller and I prefer to dance in them. And having more options in colours, patterns as well as styles really makes a difference in the way that you see fashion. When something it presented everywhere and it it’s something you connect to, be it a film with someone who looks like you or music with lyrics that sound similar to your feelings, you just feel better and more united in a way. I know we’re talking about shoes here, but even the small things can have that effect. (Photo curtesy of Pinterest)

So thank you fashion for creating and designing cool, new and more comfortable heels, for those of us who want them. Keep up the good work!
