The British Vogue Youtube Channel

Whilst most of us know British Vogue to be a print magazine, it like many of its peers has grown with the trends of technology and expanded into an online website, blog, youtube channel and many other forms to note.

I discovered the channel around three years ago and being a lover of fashion and the medium of youtube, have been an avid watcher ever since. So yes I am wandering over into fashion territory for this weeks post, but I wanted to talk about the channel, why I love it so much and why I think you might love it too.

So without further ado, here are 5 reasons to check out the British Vogue Youtube Channel for all you fashion people out there:

1. The content is diverse.

And I’m not just talking about gender or race but in so many other forms. You learn about what designers are creating from high street to high end, what new and upcoming artists, dancers, actors, models and singers are up to and are wearing. There are even video’s about the magazine itself from pre production to the final product. Through the medium of video, the channel reminds us that inspiration & style are everywhere no matter where you are, who you are, or how much money you have.

2. It satisfies the viewers curiosity.

Which is just a pretty word for nosiness. We see what goes behind the glamour of each issue and behind the scenes of the people involved in it. Highlights for me include the “Inside the Wardrobe” series, where celebrities and people who work in fashion go through their wardrobes and tell stories about each piece, as well as “Vogue Editors do London Fashion Week” and “In the Bag”, a series on what people carry in their handbags every day.

3. It is educational.

As interesting as it is to see different wardrobes, something that I really enjoy about the channel is its ability to inform about the world of fashion. British model and presenter Alexa Chung did an original series for British Vogue titled “The Future of Fashion” where she ventured into different areas of the fashion world interviewing people who work in them, asking them about what they do, how they started and the key to navigating their industry. As an outsider, these things can be quite difficult to figure out with only a handful of well known jobs being known about; fashion editor, fashion designer etc. But the series looked at how like any industry, fashion requires a variety of jobs such as business analysts, accountants, social media teams, seamstresses, the list goes on. As a viewer it was fantastic to see this type of content as the more you come to understand about this Vogue world, the more you find yourself wanting to learn.

4. It balances the old and the new.

Something that British Vogue is excellent at is paying homage to its history. It is very patriotic and understands the power of its roots, carrying this value from the magazine to all other channels. A video that comes to mind is “Poppy Delevingne tells the story of British Vogue” whereby Delevingne takes us back over 100 years to the first issue ever released in 1916. She narrates the growth of the magazine in the coming decades and its power as a means in which to boost moral during World War II, a platform for experimental photographers and artists, an celebrator of new street trends, new people to watch or simply a collection of beautifully edited pages detailing life, pop culture, beauty, travel and clothing for the world, on behalf of the U.K.

5. It loves fashion and makes you love it too!
