As I was deciding who to write about this week, I quickly got distracted and put on the person whose album I have not stopped listening to in the past two weeks. Dua Lipa. So like with many of my other posts I decided to roll with this. This weeks post is about my late discovery, Dua Lipa. Because frankly she’s so cool and I want to write about her.

I had heard her singles “The One” and “New Rules” but it was only when other singles from her self titled album were released in Australia recently was when I figured out how awesome she was and how much I liked her songs. Before long she was on tour (which I missed out on!) had been the first woman at the Brit awards to be nominated for five categories, (winning two) and had over three singles on the charts.

Listening to her stuff, it sounds like a breath of fresh air. Its pretty cliche but I feel like her album is focused and ready to rock. It’s a new sound and her lyrics tell you that she isn’t waiting for someone to turn her world upside down and be her answer. She’s ready to blow minds, give those who doubt her hell and to show you what she can do as  an artist and writer. It’s a feel good album that tells you it’s important to feel through the ups and downs and that sometimes a dance can heal everything. That being said, she is able to access a more vulnerable side as well, with the soft ballad “Homesick” and the dreamy acoustic “Thinking Bout’ You”. As an artist, she transitions seamlessly from each style and is impressive in her songwriting.

Overall I think she is one to watch, or rather, listen to. She’s creative, full of talent and makes you want to get things done and be your best self. It could be the fangirl in me talking but there hasn’t been an artist that has had that type of effect on me and my attitude. And I find that pretty special. So thank you for what you’re doing Dua, you’re killing the game. If you haven’t already, give her a listen everyone!
