Check in and Moving Day!

Well it has been a little while since I last wrote but quite a lot has happened. I am set to graduate from university this year and The Media Girl Blog has moved in with all of my other work onto this site!

After thinking about how I wanted to best represent my work it seemed like the logical thing to have all of my online portfolio in one place. Less drama and less tabs open on my laptop which is very exciting I must say. Anyways, The Media Girl is here and I’m ready to write for her again.

It’s that time of year again where we’re all anticipating Christmas but it’s too early to truly start winding down yet, despite being told by department stores that Santa is apparently only two weeks away. My peers are finishing or have finished off their exams and things are becoming quiet for me in terms of workload. As a result this has made me reflect on how I want to make the most of studying and completing a media and communications degree.

Having read the theory about the Craftsman Mindset from Cal Newport earlier this year I was immediately inspired by the main premise which was that: What ever you choose to do can be the most fulfilling when you aren’t chasing something you want to have an immediate “passion” for, but rather just working at the things that you like or have some skill in and keep working on them. For then passion and satisfaction in what you do emerges because you prioritised working on your craft and bettering your skillset.

So that is the plan at the moment. Keep writing and making things that I enjoy. Better my editing skills in video, audio and photoshop. In social media, copywriting and marketing and to remain creative and push myself to produce work that is refined and reflects my progress as a media practitioner.

This is going to be a career filled with uncertainty and no set pathway but deep down I’ve loved it so far, so it’s time to embrace that and just start walking in a direction. Off we go…
